This gypsy band from Belgium performs both original songs and ancient Eastern European music (Hungary, Romania, the Balkans, Russia). Evergreens, operetta tunes, light classical music, Viennese music, Jewish tunes (klezmer), as well as "hot club" gypsy music as played by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli are all included in their repertoire.
Four musicians are gipsies: two from Belgium, one from Romania, and two from Hungary. They perform their music with the same level of virtuosity that has made gypsy musicians so well-known around the world.
The group's ability to offer a flawlessly constructed concert that has the audience spellbound from the start to the finish, as well as the cerebral approach to their music, are what really set them apart from the competition.
Pal (Hungary), violin Iulian (Romania), accordion Ernest (Hungary), cimbalom + guitar Herman De Rycke (Belgium), double-bass make up the band's main lineup.
The quartet is currently on tour with violinist and Bulgarian gypsy singer Emilia. Emilia performs both original songs and traditional gypsy music. She also adds scatting to gypsy music while playing the violin, creating a distinctive sound. Together, the band and Emilia create a swirling spectacle on stage that alternates between instrumental and vocal music. They constantly have fresh things happening in their show.
