Tim Rhys-Evans, the inspirational music director behind the well-known male choir Only Men Aloud, founded Only Boys Aloud eight years ago. Since then, the group has given hundreds of boys in South Wales once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to perform on stages big and small throughout the UK, as well as numerous TV appearances and recordings. Word of this phenomena has spread throughout the world, with 10 choirs covering all of South Wales and another four choirs launched in North Wales last year. The boys' Britain's Got Talent audition video has received well over 26 million views on YouTube, and there are comments from all around the world posted practically daily on their website. Since being formed in 2010 for a single concert, Only Boys Aloud has grown steadily. They achieved a historic third place on Britain's Got Talent in 2012, performed at Buckingham Palace to commemorate the anniversary of the coronation in 2013, sang in the X Factor final, and have appeared on numerous national UK TV shows.

The scheme's central tenant is inclusivity. There is no cost to participate. There are none. Regardless of background or skill level, any guy between the ages of 13 and 19 who pledges to attending consistently at his local rehearsal is welcome. The program's main objective is to improve the lives of young men in Wales by fostering higher aspirations, self-esteem, and confidence. The ALOUD Charity was established in 2012 to ensure the continuation of this incredible, life-altering endeavour, and OBA is one of its primary initiatives.
